When does the summer transfer window close? All you need to know

The summer transfer window is now into its final week and Newcastle United are keen to add to their one signing of the summer so far.

The Magpies sealed the club record signing of Joelinton from Hoffenheim last month but Steve Bruce is hopeful of adding more new faces.

Clubs across the leagues will be keen on bolstering their ranks as well as retaining the services of key players who may attract attention from elsewhere - either from domestic clubs or those on the continent.

A significant sum of money is expected to be splashed during the final week, particularly by the Premier League’s established clubs, and those fees could spark a domino effect in the market.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the start of the transfer window.

When did the summer transfer window open?

The Premier League announced the transfer window opened on Thursday May 16, for domestic deals.

The date that FIFA’s window begun was Sunday June 9, which was when transfers from abroad could be finalised.

When will the summer transfer window close?

The transfer window in the Premier League closes on Thursday August 8 at 5pm, just before the start of the new season, but clubs can still sell players to other nations if the window in that country remains open.

The transfer window in France, Spain and Germany slams shut on August 31, while Italy’s transfer window concludes on August 18.

What about Championship and EFL clubs?

The Sky Bet Championship transfer window will close on the same date as the Premier League (August 8) following a vote earlier in the season.

However, the window will remain open for clubs in League One and League Two until the end of August - but an official date has not been confirmed yet, as August 31 falls on a matchday.
