When does the Spanish transfer window close? How long do Barcelona and Real Madrid have to seal final deals?

Real Madrid and Barcelona both still have potentially significant transfer business to conduct this summer.

Having brought Zinedine Zidane back into the dugout towards the end of a torrid 2018/19 season, Los Blancos started the summer on the front foot in the transfer window.

They agreed a deal to sign Brazilian centre-back Eder Militao from Porto before the season had ended, and followed it by bringing in Ferland Mendy, Luka Jovic and Eden Hazard at a cost of well over £200million.

However, Zidane has so far been unable to prise Paul Pogba away from Manchester United, while the futures of Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez remain up in the air.

Barcelona have made some similarly important signings, with Frenkie de Jong and Antoine Griezmann arriving from Ajax and Atletico Madrid respectively, while reserve goalkeeper Neto has also joined from Sevilla.

They too, however, have been unable to offload some expensive attacking talent to balance the books, with Philippe Coutinho having turned down a loan move to Tottenham.

And then, of course, there is the Neymar situation. Paris Saint-Germain are open to allowing the Brazilian to leave for the right price, with Barcelona keen to bring him back to Camp Nou, but wary of a potential Real Madrid hijack.

The two El Clasico giants, along with the rest of the clubs in Spain, have until 11:59pm local time on Monday, September 2 to get any final business done.
