When does the Premier League start? Opening fixtures as Liverpool and Man City set to battle gain

The Premier League season kicks off in just over a week’s time on Friday 5 August, when Crystal Palace host Arsenal in the opening fixture. That match kicks off at 8pm and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

Last season’s runners-up Liverpool will take on Fulham the following day, while defending champions Manchester City are away to West Ham United on Sunday 7 August.

This year's competition is beginning a week earlier than last season and will feature a mid-season break to facilitate the World Cup between November 14 and December 26.

Both Manchester City and Liverpool are favourites again this time round and both sets of fans will be keeping an eye on their newly signed strikers.

Elsewhere, Christiano Ronaldo’s situation at Manchester United continues to make headlines as the club refuses to sell him despite the Portuguese star’s desire to leave.

On a side note, this year the competition will be using a new ball designed by Nike as a throwback to the one used in the Premier League’s maiden season 30 years ago. The ‘Nike Flight’ ball was unveiled back in June.
