When does the January transfer window close across Europe and the rest of the world?

Clubs across the UK and Europe have less than 48 hours to complete their business during the January transfer window.

But there are some nations who will continue trading into next month.

Newcastle United have already brought Nabil Bentaleb and Valentio Lazaro to the club, while Sunderland have signed Josh Scowen, Kyle Lafferty and Bailey Wright.

Manchester United and Tottenham have, among others, started to make their mark towards the end of the window – with Bruno Fernandes closing in on a big money move to Old Trafford.

And there are sure to be a few more high-profile switches before the 11pm cut off on Friday evening.

Here is our guide to the transfer window outside of the Premier League.

When does the transfer window close?

For clubs in England, the deadline is at 11pm on Friday evening.

However, as long as a deal sheet is submitted between 9pm and 11pm on that date, the parties involved will have until midnight to finalise the transfer.

That’s why, in some cases, announcements are made later in the evening on transfer deadline day – or even the next day.

As mentioned above, though, some nations have extended periods for winter business, which are as follows;

England: January 31 (11pm)

France: January 31 (11pm)

Germany: January 31 (11pm)

Italy: January 31 (11pm)

Spain: January 31 (11pm)

Scotland: January 31 (midnight)

Portugal: February 2

Russia: February 22

China: February 27

What does this mean?

In effect, while clubs across the UK – and most of Europe – won’t be able to bring in any new players beyond the cut off, players can still be picked up by clubs in Russia, Portugal and the Chinese Super League.

Is there an extended loan window?

Not since FIFA changes the rules ahead of the 2016/2017 season. The loan deadline is the same as the ‘regular’ transfer deadline. However, in exceptional circumstances, seven-day loan deals can be arranged for goalkeepers.
