When does the January 2021 football transfer window open?

Football fans have been treated to two transfer deadline days this month, but due to the delayed start to the summer window, the January 2021 transfer window isn't as far away as usual.

The main "summer" window closed on October 5, before which Premier League clubs had to do their main business.

But the extra domestic transfer window - which ended at 5pm on October 16 - allowed EFL clubs to trade with Premier League clubs and each other on either loan or permanent deals. Top flight clubs, however, have not been able to trade with each other during this extra timeframe.

When does the January 2021 transfer window open?

The winter transfer window will open on January 4 and close on February 1, 2021.

That's less than three months after the "summer" window closed, so clubs could well soon be putting the foundations for January targets in place.

While loan deals tend to be more commonplace in the January window - as fringe players seek regular game time - a congested calendar could well affect that.
