In confirming they'd agreed a deal "in principle" to sign Daniel James, Manchester United revealed further details would be announced once the international transfer window was open.
While the domestic transfer window opened on May 16, the international window, or the FIFA Transfer Matching System (TMS), doesn't open until June 11.
That means that while clubs can agree deals between themselves and players can agree terms with their new employers, the transfer can't be processed officially until the TMS opens.
With the Football Association of Wales (FAW) holding the registration of all players who represent clubs in Wales, despite Swansea playing in the English league system, the deal to take James from Swansea to United will be classed as an international transfer.
After James passed a medical at Carrington on Thursday, United released a statement on Friday confirming the deal, "in principle."
It read: "Manchester United is delighted to announce that it has agreed, in principle, terms with both Swansea City and Daniel James for his transfer to the club.
"Daniel has successfully completed a medical at the Aon Training Complex.
"Further details will be communicated once the international transfer window opens next week."
In confirm the departure of James, a Swansea statement said: "The Premier League club has also agreed personal terms with James, 21, following a successful medical at Old Trafford.
"The transfer is expected to be completed when FIFA’s international transfer window opens from June 11."
