When does 2020 January transfer window open and close?

The new year is looming large and the January transfer window will soon be here as managers are given the opportunity to strengthen their teams mid-season.

Top-flight clubs have not been able to sign players from other clubs since the summer window closed on August 8.

But trading will resume in 2020 with Manchester United and Man City potentially set for a busy few weeks.

But when exactly does the January window open and close? Here is the information you need to know.

When does the January transfer window open?

The window opens on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at midnight.

While it is unlikely we will see many deals formally arranged before Wednesday, some could be announced on the first day.

When does the January transfer window close?

The window will close on Friday, January 31 2020, and the Premier League has confirmed 11pm as the time of its closure.

Transfers can be completed after the deadline as long as all the necessary paperwork is submitted in time.

What about the loan window for signings?

At the start of the 2016/17 campaign, FIFA abolished the emergency loan window.

Free agents are permitted to join clubs outside the window while there is special dispensation should clubs suffer a goalkeeping crisis.
