When does Strictly start and who is competing on the BBC One series?

Strictly Come Dancing 2020 is almost upon us.

BBC has confirmed the official launch date after announcing which contestants will be taking part in this year's series.

Strictly has had to make many changes due to the current climate. These include dropping the Blackpool special and running a shorter series.

But when does the series start and who is taking part? Here's everything you need to know.

The launch date has been confirmed for October 17, 2020.

BBC Strictly has been counting down the days on social media.

Usually the launch date, which sees the contestants coupled with the professionals, airs a few weeks before the live shows, but this year that is not the case.

Head judge Shirley Ballas appeared to confirm the start date on The One Show recently.

She told Alex Jones and Chris Ramsey: "Well our launch show is the 17th, and I believe our first live show is the 24th of October."

For the last four weeks BBC has ran the spin-off show, Strictly: The Best Of, which airs its last episode this weekend.
