When does Premier League 2021/22 start, how long after Euros?

Just when you thought a summer of football was enough to keep you ticking over, you remember that the Premier League starts again not long after!

Euro 2020 got underway last week and kick-started a month long tournament between European nations during the summer to crown a European champion, following a 12-month delay caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament will run from June 11th to July 11th, before those players taking part are allowed to begin their holidays.

Copa America will also take place this summer, the South American continent's version of the same tournament. It will run alongside the Euro 2020 tournament, starting on June 13th and finishing with a final on July 10th.

So with that information, when is the Premier League planning on restarting after such a hectic schedule last year and a packed summer? Here's what you need to know.

The Premier League 2021/22 season is currently scheduled to kick-off on Saturday August 14th 2021. TV schedules are obviously yet to be released, but it's likely that one game will move to Friday August 13th as they have done in each of the previous two seasons.

That means there is just over a month between Euro 2020 ending and the beginning of the new Premier League season. That follows a shortened domestic campaign calendar last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic which saw a lot of games squeezed in to a shorter period of time.

The season is currently scheduled to end on May 22nd 2022, meaning the schedule will return to normal following a delayed start last year.

The new season will see Manchester City defending their newly won crown as champions, while Manchester United will look to improve upon their second placed finish by closing the 12 point gap they ended the year with last season behind City.

The fixtures for the new season will be released during the Euro 2020 tournament, giving fans an overload of football information. The Premier League will release the full schedule on Wednesday June 16th 2021, although dates are subject to change depending on TV schedules and cup competition progression throughout the season.

They will be released at 9am BST and Manchester Evening News will have all your City and United fixture news live as it happens.
