When does Love Island 2021 start and what are the rule changes for the new series?

A new advert for Love Island has confirmed the dating show will return to television screens later this month.

It will be the first time the ITV programme has aired since February 2020 after last year's summer series was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The latest advert aired for the first time on television on Saturday evening before The Masked Dancer final on ITV.

It featured host Laura Whitmore and her husband Iain Stirling, the show's narrator.

In the advert, which is an extended version of a previously released clip, Laura sounded the alarm for the start of the new series.

When does Love Island 2021 start?

Love Island's return was confirmed by ITV in March.

The new series will air on ITV2 and ITV Hub.

Some media reports suggest the show will air its first episode on Monday, June 28.

However, this is unconfirmed by ITV.

We will update this piece as soon as we receive an official date.

What are the rule changes for the new Love Island series?

No official changes to the rules have been made, however, it's expected there will be a number of coronavirus guidelines to help keep the cast and crew safe.

Previously, rules have been in place regarding smoking, vaping, drinking alcohol and having sex in the villa.

A spokesman for the show told the Star there is "a strict briefing for all islanders regarding acceptable behaviour before they go in".

Sex

A Love Island spokesperson said there are "strict guidelines on sexual behaviour in the villa" and "constant monitoring of islander behaviour once in the villa".

Alcohol

Contestants' alcohol intake is limited inside the villa.

Smoking

Following a string of complaints after the 2017 series, Radio Times reports that ITV took the decision to ban cigarettes on the screen.

If a contestant wanted to smoke, they have to exit the villa and go to a designated smoking area alone.

Nudity

Contestants are not allowed to be totally naked in front of any of the other islanders due to the villa being classed as a 'public place'.

According to the Mirror, Islanders can't be nude even in the bathroom.
