What time on Friday does tier 4 lockdown start as 11 Scottish council areas face new restrictions

Nicola Sturgeon confirmed earlier this week that Glasgow is to enter the toughest level of restrictions.

The First Minister made the announcement the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday that Glasgow City would be one of 11 council areas to move into Level 4 of the five-tier coronavirus lockdown system.

The Scottish Government restrictions will come into place on Friday, November 20 at 6pm. They will last for three weeks, meaning they are expected to end on the December 11.

The measures will also be imposed in North and South Lanarkshire, West and East Dunbartonshire and Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire, South and East Ayrshire, West Lothian and Stirling.

The new lockdown restrictions will see all bars, restaurants and non-essential retail closing their doors. Gyms will also be forced to shut for the duration of the lockdown.

Ms Sturgeon also confirmed that travel restriction guidelines advising people against moving from Level 3 and 4 local authorities into Level 2 and 1 areas would be put into law.

However, schools will remain open, despite the move in Level 4, with Ms Sturgeon pointing to the fact that more than three quarters of Scottish schools didn't report a single case of coronavirus in the first nine weeks of the new term.
