Go, get your masks from the back of the closet, and don your scariest armor pieces, because the Festival of the Lost has returned to the Tower in Destiny 2. For the 2025 version of the event, you can jump into the new Haunted Altars activity and grind shiny new weapons.
Festival of the Lost is the annual Halloween event in Destiny 2, so all the rewards are available for a limited time. To avoid missing out on loot, here’s exactly how long this year’s Festival of the Lost will run.

When does Destiny 2’s Festival of the Lost 2025 end?
Bungie confirmed that Festival of the Lost 2025 will run for three weeks until the weekly reset on Nov. 11. The weekly reset takes place at 12pm CT (without accounting for Daylight Saving), and you can likely expect some downtime ahead of time. Initially, the event was planned to last only two weeks, but due to several issues inside the new Haunted Altars activity, Festival of the Lost has been extended.
This means you have an additional week to grind for new weapons as well as complete all the challenges for the Ghost Writer title and the event pass. There are also six new masks to unlock this year, including the Failsafe mask, Oryx mask, and Lodi mask.
What’s in this year’s Festival of the Lost?
For Festival of the Lost 2025, Bungie replaced Haunted Sectors with Haunted Altars of Sorrow. Haunted Altars of Sorrow is a six-player matchmade activity, which mixes regular Altars of Sorrow with Onslaught. There’s also the Red Rum(ble) PvP mode as well as event drops all across the Portal, in case you want to play something else but still get that sweet loot.
In terms of loot, there are three weapons to grind. Gunburn and Hushed Whisper are new weapons this year. Gunburn is a Kinetic SMG with Kinetic Tremors, while Hushed Whisper is a Strand bow with all the elemental perks. A returning weapon is last year’s Arcane Embrace Heavy Burst shotgun.
All event loot drops at a higher Tier than your regular loot when completing an activity. So, if you’ve been getting Tier 4 drops from the Portal, you’ll get guaranteed Tier 5 rewards. There are also holofoil versions of the event weapons in case you want something shinier for your vault.
