When does Dancing On Ice 2022 start? Date, confirmed line-up and judges

Dancing On Ice is due to return to our screens for the fourteenth series on Sunday January 16 at 6.30pm, ITV has confirmed.

With the star-studded line up of contestants confirmed - and some new judges announced - it looks set to be another sensational series of the popular ITV show.

During the show each week the celebrities and their professional partners perform a live ice dance routine.

The judges, commonly known as the Ice Panel, judge each performance and give a mark between 0.0 and 10.0 and these total scores then create a leader board which combines with the public vote which then ends in a couple leaving the show.

What can you expect from the 2022 series? Here we take a closer look.

Who are the contestants?

Coronation Street's Sally Dynevor was the very first celebrity contestant to be confirmed for the new series of Dancing on Ice.

Following the announcement that the soap star would be taking to the ice on the Lorraine show last year, the other 11 star contestants have also been announced.

The second celebrity contestant to be confirmed for the Dancing On Ice 2022 line up was Happy Mondays' Bez.

He made the announcement by appearing from a snowball on This Morning, where when asked how he's been getting on, said: "At the moment it’s more like Bambi on Ice, not Dancing On Ice."

Joining Bez and Sally are Love Island ’s Liberty Poole, Pussycat Dolls star Kimberly Wyatt, Brendan Cole, Connor Ball, Ria Hebden, Kye Whyte, singer Rachel Stevens, Regan Gascoigne, Ben Foden and paralympic athlete Stef Reid.

Former Strictly Come Dancing professional Brendan has had an eventful start to his time on the ice - even ending up in hospital after one dramatic training session.

Speaking with the Daily Star in November, the New Zealand ballroom dancer revealed that one injury has been so severe he required emergency treatment in A&E.

"I was on the ice and I took my mind off what I was doing for a second," he explained to the publication.

"I turned – and that’s the last thing I remember."

The star then goes on to recall being taken to hospital and suffering from a concussion - admitting he was "horrified" when he realised what had happened.

In more positive training news, Paralympic athlete Stef, 36, is hoping her appearance on Dancing On Ice will inspire others.

The sports star - who lost her leg in a boating accident as a teenager - has had a new prosthetic leg designed to help her ice skate.

"As soon as I knew I was on the show, I called [prosthetist Richard Nieveen] up and said, 'Guess what? I need a skating leg'," she explained chatting ahead of the show starting later this month.

Who are the judges?

This year's Dancing On Ice judging panel has a new face (ITV)

The ice panel of judges has consisted on Jayne Torvil, Christopher Dean, Ashley Banjo and John Barrowman for the last two series but 2022 will see some changes.

John Barrowman will not be making a return to the show in 2022.

Instead, John will be working on a different show All Star Musicals, which an ITV spokesman told the Mirror he was 'thrilled' about.

An ITV spokesman told The Mirror: “We thank John Barrowman for two brilliant years on the Dancing on Ice panel and are pleased to be working with him again as host of the forthcoming All Star Musicals specials.

"John is thrilled to be returning to work for ITV as host on the new All Star Musicals."

This comes after accusations that he repeatedly exposed himself on the sets of other shows.

Taking his place, is Strictly Come Dancing pro Oti Mabuse.

"As a professional dancer I have always had so much respect for the skating professionals on Dancing on Ice," the star said, following the announcement of her new role.

"It is an exceptional skill that is also so beautiful to watch."

When is Dancing On Ice Starting?

On January 5, ITV confirmed Dancing On Ice would return to our screens on Sunday January 16 at 6.30pm

Since January 2018 the show has been broadcast from RAF Bovingdon where a full sized studio was built for the series.
