When do the clocks go back 2020? The date the clocks change this weekend

It's officially October, which means the annual ritual of changing the clocks isn't far away.

For many of us the new season means cosy knits, log fires and hot chocolate, it also brings Halloween, although it's set to look pretty different this year.

And while many of us are working from home and therefore not doing the early morning and late evening commutes, it's likely you've noticed it's started to get darker much earlier.

When the clocks go back it signals an official end to British Summer Time as we move back on to Greenwich Mean Time. Here's when you need to put them back an hour this weekend.

When do the clocks change 2020?

Each year the clocks change on the last Sunday on October, this year that's October 25.

That means you will need to put the clocks back by one hour on Sunday, October 25 at 2am, although most mobile phones, tablets or laptops should update the time automatically.

It means the nation will gain an extra hour in bed on the Sunday.

And although it will get dark even earlier in the evenings, the clocks going back help us take advantage of the daylight we do get.

When do the clocks go forward again?

The clocks always go forward at 1am on the final Sunday of March, in 2020 this fell on March 29, around the same time the UK first went into lockdown due to the current coronavirus pandemic.

In 2021 British Summer Time will therefore begin on Sunday, March 28.
