When do supermarkets close on Christmas Eve 2020? Tesco, Asda and Aldi's opening hours

Christmas is fast approaching and many of us will be busy preparing the turkey and all the trimmings over the next week.

Many shoppers opted to order their food online this year, but with Christmas delivery slots almost all filled up, others will have to head to the supermarket to pick up their festive feast.

With so many changes to supermarkets over the last few months, and many closing on Boxing Day this year, it can be hard to keep up. Head here to find out more on non-essential stores closing by end of trading on Christmas Eve.

To make sure you're aware of your local store's opening and closing hours, here's when major shops such as Tesco, Asda and Morrisons will close on Christmas Eve this year, just in case you need to make a last minute dash.

While below you will find the general opening hours for each store, it's always best to check your local for any variant trading times.

Tesco

The supermarket has over 300 stores open for 24 hours a day in the lead up to Christmas to help customers shop safely with less chance of queues.

In general, on Christmas Eve Tesco Extras, Superstores and Metro stores will close at 7pm.

Express stores will close at 10pm.

However, opening hours may vary from store to store so your best bet is to visit the Tesco Store locator site online to check your local store's opening times over the Christmas period.

Asda

The retail giant recently announced it would be closing all stores across the country on Boxing Day in a supermarket first to give staff well deserved time off after working through the pandemic. You can read more here.

Currently, Asda plans so shut all stores at 7pm on Christmas Eve and will go back to normal opening hours on December 27.

Sainsbury's

On Christmas eve, most of Sainsbury's supermarkets will be open from 6am to 7pm.

Opening hours can vary though, so Sainsbury's is advising its customers check its store locator for the latest details in their area.

Morrisons

Between Monday 21 and Wednesday 23 most Morrisons stores will be open between 6am and midnight to help shoppers get everything they need for Christmas.

On Christmas Eve the supermarket told us they will be opening stores from 6am to 6pm across England and Wales.

Aldi

The store will be open up until 11pm next week in most cases but will close at 6pm on Christmas Eve.

Like Asda, Aldi will be closed on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day this year.

While the general opening hours will apply to most, Aldi is urging shoppers to check local store details online to avoid disappointment.
