When do England play in the World Cup last-16?

England secured their place in the World Cup round-of-16 on Tuesday evening after beating Wales 3-0 at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium.

The Three Lions kept hold of top spot in Group B, ending the group with seven points thanks to three second-half goals.

Marcus Rashford thumped home a brilliant free-kick on 50 minutes, and when England pressed from the resultant Wales kick-off, Harry Kane's low cross was met by Phil Foden to make it two within a minute.

Manchester United winger Rashford slotted home again with 20 minutes to spare, topping off a brilliant performance from the forward.

Victory guaranteed England's place at the top of the group regardless of the result at the Al Thumama Stadium - a game which saw the USA grab second-place with a 1-0 win against Iran. It also confirmed the Three Lions' round-of-16 opponents and potential route to the final, should they go all the way.

Here's all you need to know.

Who will England play in the round-of-16?

England will face Senegal in the first round of the knockout stages after they secured second place in Group A by beating Ecuador.

When is England's round-of-16 tie?

Winning Group A allows England an extra day's rest for the round-of-16 as they play on Sunday, December 4 at 7pm UK time - a 10pm kick-off in Qatar. The game will take place at the 68,000-capacity Al Bayt Stadium, and will be shown live on BBC One from 6.30pm.

What does England's route to the final look like?

Should Gareth Southgate's side beat Senegal on Sunday, their quarter-final will be on Saturday December 10 at 7pm, against the winner of Group D (France) or the runner-up from Group C (one of Poland, Argentina, Saudi Arabia or Mexico).

Progression into the semi-finals would see the Three Lions take to the field on Wednesday December 14, with kick-off again at 7pm, with the final due to be played at the Lusail Stadium on Sunday December 18.
