When do DWP pay Universal Credit over Christmas and New Year?

If you are a Universal Credit claimant, you might be wondering how your benefit will be affected by festive holidays.

Christmas Day and Boxing Day are, of course, bank holidays - as is New Year's Day.

If your benefits are due to arrive on December 25, December 26 or January 1, you will actually receive payment earlier than usual.

A Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) spokeswoman told Bristol Live that Universal Credit will be paid out on the closest working day before the holiday.

Universal Credit, introduced in 2013, rolls six means-tested benefits and tax credits into a single monthly payment.

Check out the list below to confirm when your money will drop into your bank account.

  • Payment due: Wednesday, December 25. Payment made: December 24.
  • Payment due: Thursday, December 26. Payment made: December 25.
  • Payment due: Friday, December 27. Payment made: December 24.
  • Payment due: Monday, December 30. Payment made: December 30.
  • Payment due: Tuesday, December 31. Payment made: December 31.
  • Payment due: Wednesday, January 1, 2020. Payment made: December 31, 2019.
