When do Bristol Rovers have to sign someone by to make their debut against Coventry City? EFL registration rules

It's transfer deadline day.

Time is ticking for clubs to sign players ahead of the transfer window shutting tonight - but there is a second deadline that Bristol Rovers must be aware of.

The Gas will be hoping to sign players in time for them to feature against Coventry City tomorrow, but they must watch the clock in order to do so.

Rovers won't be able to leave signings until the last minute if they want to thrust them straight into the squad - here are the EFL registration rules in full.

EFL rules

“A Player will only be eligible to play in a match organised by The League if the appropriate forms for his registration or the transfer of his registration (including, for the avoidance of doubt, Temporary Loan Transfers) are received (including by facsimile) and found to be in order by The League by 12.00 noon on the day prior to the date of such match.”

This means that if a player is signed after midday on Friday's deadline, then they will have to wait until the following week to make their debuts for their new clubs.

When does the window close?

The January transfer window will close at 11pm on Friday, January 31.

That gives clubs an 11 hour window where they can sign new players but not have them registered in time to play on Saturday.
