When Dilip Kumar told Shah Rukh Khan what kept his performances enduring and long lasting even after years- watch video

As people from across the county continue to mourn the loss of Dilip Kumar, celebs are fondly sharing memories of the ‘acting institution’ and calling it ‘end of an era’. While the unfortunate demise of the legend has left a void in the film industry, however, the Tragedy King’s iconic work will continue to inspire generations after generations.

Talking about what kept Dilip Kumar’s so relevant even after decades, the late actor once opened up about his acting performances and shared his secret to success with Shah Rukh Khan. During an award show, Dilip Kumar took to the stage with his wife Saira Banu where he was questioned by Shah Rukh Khan about what made his films so ‘enduring, long-lasting and so wonderful’.

To this, the legend replied, "Sheer good luck! Perhaps, a lot of hard work, honesty, togetherness, fellowship, and above all, yes, no actor can be bigger than the substance which he portrays... I mean the character, the story, the screenplay. For any good or enduring performance, Shah Rukh (holds his hand) you have to have a good story, good character equations, sound conflict, and enough of an opportunity for you to then wade through it. Then you have substance to deal with, not just shadows."

Currently, the video is doing rounds on the internet among fan clubs.

On Wednesday morning, Dilip Kumar left for his heavenly abode at a Mumbai hospital where he was admitted for the second time in the same month after he complained of breathing issues. He was 98 and survived by his wife and veteran actress Saira Banu.

Later around 4:45 pm, he was laid to rest at Juhu in Santacruz, Mumbai with full state honour in the presence of his family, including Saira Banu.
