When did the UK coronavirus lockdown start?

The coronavirus pandemic has completely changed the world as we know it.

And the UK lockdown has forced us into a quieter, simpler way of life.

We are being told to stay home to save lives - not just our own, but others.

The measures announced by the Prime Minister Boris Johnson last month were completely unprecedented.

Mr Johnson ordered people to stay home and only leave the house in a few circumstances.

This only includes shopping for basic necessities; partaking in one form of exercise a day; for a medical need or travelling to work if it is absolutely necessary.

Mr Johnson announced that, on top of pubs, restaurants and gyms already being close, that all shops - apart from those selling food and pharmacies - were to shut.

The Prime Minister made this announcement on Monday March 23.

He said that these strict measures will be reviewed in three weeks - which takes us to around Easter Monday, April 13.

Various questions have been asked at the government's daily briefings as to whether it is looking like restrictions will be lifted.

On Sunday (April 5) Health Secretary Matt Hancock warned AGAIN that those flouting social-distancing rules are 'risking people's lives'.

This lead to suggestion that tougher measures could be introduced as a result.

However, when pressed during Sunday's media briefing, Mr Hancock said the government is not looking at tightening the rules 'imminently'.

"What we are doing is being absolutely clear that the current rules must be followed," he said.
