When could Bolton Wanderers' Covid postponed Boxing Day clash vs Morecambe be rearranged for

Bolton Wanderers confirmed their second postponed match in the space of six days after a Covid-19 outbreak at the club forced the planned Boxing Day clash against Morecambe to be shelved.

Bolton were poised to be in action at the University of Bolton Stadium on Sunday, December 26, against the Shrimps.

But last Saturday's game at home to Wycombe Wanderers was called off because of a Covid-19 outbreak in the squad at Bolton and there was question marks surrounding this weekend's clash as a result.

And Wanderers have now confirmed that the game is off, with the club's next fixture poised to be the away game against Burton Albion on Wednesday, December 29.

Wanderers are yet to announce a new date for the game against Morecambe, so when might this be played?

At present, the only weekend where Wanderers are not in action is the one of the third round of the FA Cup, which they are no longer in after being knocked out in a first round replay against Stockport County.

Wanderers had been due to take on Cambridge United that weekend, but the Us have landed a trip to St James' Park to take on Premier League giants Newcastle United.

However, this is not an option as the Shrimps also have a glamour tie too in the world's oldest cup competition, with a trip to take on Tottenham Hotspur.

Wanderers are in midweek action in early January in the EFL Trophy versus Hartlepool United, so a game then is out of the question.

It seems very likely that, like last season, the game will be a midweek evening encounter at the University of Bolton Stadium, with the earliest available date which could work being Tuesday, January 25.

Wanderers have three midweek games on Tuesday nights in February and have seven matches planned so far for that month, so the prospect of another being added during that month may not appeal.

Bolton currently only have four games in March, all on Saturdays, and so fitting one or both of their postponed fixtures in during this month may well appeal.

There are also some free midweek slots in April when the regular League One season will reach its climax, should they be required.
