When could Alexander Isak make his Liverpool debut after British record transfer from Newcastle?

The summer’s biggest transfer saga finally reached its conclusion on Deadline Day as Alexander Isak became a Liverpool player for a British record fee.

The Swedish striker joins the Premier League champions from Newcastle for a reported £125million, which smashes the previous record sum paid by Chelsea to Brighton for Moises Caicedo, which stood at £115million.

Isak had been pushing for a move to Anfield throughout the summer, and went on strike on Tyneside, not travelling with the club on their pre-season tour of Asia, before not featuring in any of their opening three league games so far.

He even went as far as posting a statement on his Instagram story in another attempt to force a move through.

But at last, he has got his wish, and he begins a new chapter on Merseyside. But when will that begin?

When could Alexander Isak make his Liverpool debut?

It is now the first international break of the season, and Isak has been called up by Sweden boss Jon Dahl Tomasson, who stated that, with the striker’s lack of match practice, Liverpool’s new No9 would not play 90 minutes in either of the Scandinavian side’s two World Cup qualifiers.

"He is very stable and controlled,” Tomasson said of Isak.

“We have no worries. He is not able to play for 90 minutes, but he can be a game-changer.”

Sweden take on Slovenia on Friday before a trip to Kosovo on Monday.

On Isak’s return to club football, Liverpool travel to Burnley on Sunday, September 14, where he could make his bow.

He could then be in line to make his home debut in the Champions League the following Wednesday, September 17, when Atletico Madrid visit Anfield in the first game of the league phase.

Should Isak not make the squad for the trip to Turf Moor, he might get his first league minutes in the Merseyside derby against Everton at Anfield in the lunchtime kick-off on Saturday, September 20.

Arne Slot’s side have a tricky run of games moving into October, with travels to Crystal Palace and Galatasaray rounding off their September, before a visit to Chelsea and a home encounter with Manchester United to follow.
