When can Liverpool win the Premier League? The Reds can make Premier League history

Liverpool are now 22 points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

The Reds extended their lead at the top of the table by beating Southampton 4-0 on Saturday with goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jordan Henderson and a Mohamed Salah brace.

And they maintained that advantage after City were beaten 2-0 at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp's men are next in action on February 15 when they travel to rock-bottom Norwich City, with City having a chance to reduce the arrears to 19 points having played a game more when they entertain West Ham United next Sunday.

Liverpool have now amassed 73 points after 25 games, City have played 25 matches and sit on 51 points while third-placed Leicester City have 49 points after 25 games.

The maximum number of points City can now achieve is 90 - provided they win all 13 of their remaining matches.

For Leicester, the highest possible amount is now 88 if they win 13 in a row.

Klopp's side also have 13 games left in their season, and Liverpool could achieve a maximum of 112 points by the end of the season.

However, they know that 91 points is the magic number to win the title at this point in the campaign.

Therefore, the European and world champions only need to win six of their remaining 14 games to win the Premier League, no matter what any other side in the top-flight does.

The Reds' sixth game from this point is against Crystal Palace at Anfield after Norwich (A), West Ham (H), Watford (A), Bournemouth (H) and Everton (A).

As things stand, should the Mersysiders and Manchester City win all their games from here on out, Liverpool can clinch the title on 21 March when they welcome Crystal Palace to Anfield.

That would be the earliest the league has ever been won, both in terms of date and with games remaining – seven.

Of course Liverpool could win the title sooner if Manchester City slip up with one eye on the Champions League and the Carabao Cup final.

Their next matches are against West Ham (H), Leicester (A), Manchester United (A), Burnley (H), Chelsea (A), before they host Liverpool on 4 April.

There is the possibility then that Liverpool could clinch the title at the Ethiad.
