Joe Burrow is running out of time to get some pre-training camp work in with guys like A.J. Green despite the NFLPA not being too happy with guys like Tom Brady and Russell Wilson for doing the same.
After all, while training camp potentially starts around July 28, rookies like Burrow might be able to report to Paul Brown Stadium as early as July 19.
According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, July 19 is the proposed date for rookies:
“Per a league source, the NFL’s proposed calendar has rookies reporting for a coronavirus test on July 19, with rookie conditioning beginning two days later, on July 21. That same day, injured veterans would have their coronavirus test, with conditioning for injured veterans starting on July 23. Veterans would be tested for the virus on July 26, with veteran conditioning starting along with the launch of camp on July 28.”
Disclaimer: The word “proposed” is tacked on there above because these dates would still require union approval. And even if the union signs off, teams could individually decide to not bring any players to team facilities until the training camp start date.
So while July 19 sounds good, things continue to change dramatically almost by the day. The preseason was just cut down to two games and a report says teams could ask fans to sign COVID-19 liability waivers in order to attend games.
Feel free to mark July 19 on the calendar for Burrow’s long-awaited arrival at Paul Brown Stadium — just be sure to do it in pencil.
