A series of diversions from local bus services and major traffic disruptions have been established following the sinkhole.
It still remains in the middle of the busy road on Monday however it is no longer believed to be causing any major disruption in the area.
Bury Council said it estimates work on the sinkhole will take between two and three days as a ‘cautious estimate’.

It is therefore suggested that the work should be completed by Thursday (July 22).
A spokesperson for United Utilities said that engineers attended on Friday and said they didn’t find anything wrong with their assets.
They have since handed the incident back to Bury Council’s highways team.
In a statement, Bury Council said: “Work has now commenced on the sinkhole by the Operations Department.
“Traffic is still flowing and not causing major disruption in the area. This will be continually checked.
“Estimation of works is 2-3 days depending on what is found, so this is a cautious estimate.
“Local Ward Cllrs have been notified.”
