When Bristol Waste will resume garden and bulky waste collections

Collections of garden and bulky waste will resume across Bristol next week.

Improved staffing levels across Bristol Waste crew means it will be reintroducing garden waste and bulky waste collections from Monday April 20.

Bristol Waste says it is continually reviewing its services and its priority remains the continuation of the essential waste and recycling collections.

If the situation changes and it experiences further staff shortages due to the coronavirus crisis, they may have to re-instate the suspension of garden waste collections.

Mayor of Bristol Marvin Rees said: “I am really glad that we are able to reinstate these services, and would like to thank Bristol Waste for all their hard work during these difficult times.

“By following the guidance on how to present and prepare our waste and recycling for collection, we can all help to keep our streets and surroundings as clean as possible and make life easier for our waste collection teams.”

The council is also asking people to be considerate and think of others in their neighbourhood before having a bonfire.

Lighting a bonfire or burning household and garden waste produces smoke that can be a nuisance to those around you, especially those with underlying conditions.

This comes after Avon Fire and Rescue revealed to Bristol Live resources are being stretched as the service is called to an increased number of arson attacks.

Mayor Rees added: “I would also ask everyone to be mindful of their neighbours if they are considering have a bonfire over coming weeks. Open fires can have a negative impact on our air quality, and therefore people’s health - making things especially difficult for those with breathing difficulties.

“I would like to thank all of you are following advice and guidelines and for sticking together as we try and minimise the impact of the outbreak wherever possible.”

If you have a garden waste subscription, please present your green bin on your usual collection date.

You can also book garden sack collections. Bristol Waste is unable to take any additional waste presented alongside your green bin.
