When bars, pubs & gyms will need to close as Liverpool City Region to be placed as 'very high risk'

The Liverpool City Region will be placed officially as "very high risk" from this Wednesday, October 14.

Pubs, bars and gyms in Liverpool City Region are among those that will close as part of tougher Tier 3 coronavirus lockdown restrictions set out by the Prime Minister this afternoon.

Under the Government's new Covid alert level system places which fall under the "very high risk" tier must shut venues. This means from Wednesday pubs, gyms, bars, casinos and betting shops must close.

Speaking in the House of Commons this afternoon, the PM detailed the changes for the Liverpool City Region which is made up of Liverpool, Sefton, Wirral, Knowsley, St Helens and Halton.

News of closures across the region were first reported yesterday, with much speculation over the finer details.

Liverpool City Region has been placed at the 'very high alert' level, which means Merseyside faces the harshest restrictions possible.

The Prime Minister confirmed that these new measures would be "under constant review", with a sunset clause in place with reviews every four weeks.
