When Arsenal must register Thomas Partey by to play in the Europa League group stages

Clubs unable to complete their transfer business by the end of deadline day on Monday may well be breathing a sigh of relief at the prospect of an extended domestic transfer window.

It means Premier League clubs can still sign players from EFL sides until October 16.

With players like Ismaila Sarr and Said Benrahma still available, we could well see plenty of transfer business done over the next 11 days, even if there are no more incomings from overseas.

Clubs will also be able to snap up any free agents after transfer deadline day, meaning that, whilst the pressure is on to complete deals for overseas players, there is not so much pressure should teams have viable alternatives available to them.

Transfer Deadline Day - deals from around the league so far

However, for clubs in European competition, there is an added time pressure on completing signings by the close of play Monday.

Whilst the extended domestic deadline is available to sign players, UEFA’s strict registration rules mean that any player signed after 11pm on Monday cannot feature in the Champions League or Europa League group stages.

Clubs must submit a list of 25 players they wish to register for European competition by 11pm on Monday.

It means that any signing made after this date will not be able to feature in the group stages of Europe.

Instead, clubs must wait until the January transfer window to register their new signing - provided they qualify from the group stage.

Yet this could still present a problem to some clubs, especially if they have an active January transfer window.

Clubs are only able to register a maximum of three new players for the knockout rounds in European competitions and any player signed during the domestic window will be classified as one of those new players.

That means clubs would be limited to registering just two January signings for the knockout stages of Europe.
