League of Legends is testing WASD controls, giving veterans a new way to move their champions around Summoner’s Rift while offering newcomers easier access to the complexities of the MOBA.
League’s skill ceiling has risen steadily over the past few years, making it intimidating for new players to learn the ropes with more than 170 champions to master. Since WASD controls are the standard in most PC games, adding them to League should make it easier for players to jump in and enjoy the experience. Whether you’re diving in after watching Arcane or simply looking to try something new, we’ve got you covered.
League of Legends WASD controls release date

While we don’t have a concrete release date for the WASD controls in League of Legends at the time of writing, the developer shared in a blog that the controls will begin extended PBE testing over multiple patches to gather feedback and squash bugs. After the recent Patch 25.16, PBE didn’t have the WASD controls, so you can expect it to arrive on Aug. 27, 2025, or any of the following updates.
They’ve also asked players to give them feedback during this time to help them identify key bugs and make the rollout in non-ranked modes. Once everything is addressed, they’ll enable ranked and pro play later. The developer says the goal is for players to choose whichever scheme feels most comfortable, without creating a competitive advantage for either option.
Alongside WASD, several quality-of-life improvements are also coming to the PBE, including a dynamic locked camera that offers better visibility without fully unlocking, last hit indicators in unranked queues to help new players improve their farming skills, and updated keybinding options that allow for deeper customization without the need to edit system files.
The developers are polishing a few champions like Miss Fortune, Kalista, Graves, and a few more who are trickier to balance for the WASD controls. Traditionally, mouse point and click has been a go-to option for most League players, so changes like this keep the game fresh and make it more accessible for players who are more accustomed to traditional PC games.
