Laura Kenny becomes first British woman to win gold at three Olympics

Follow live coverage of day 14 of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games which has seen Laura Kenny and Katie Archibald take gold for Great Britain as they won the first ever Olympic women’s madison in dominant fashion.

It is a fifth career Olympic title for Kenny, who surpassed Dutchwoman Leontien Zijlaard-Van Moorsel to become the most successful female cyclist in Olympic history as she took gold at a third consecutive Games. Jack Carlin then added more silverware for the GB cycling team with a bronze in the men’s sprint.

Kate French put together a brilliant series of performances to become Britain’s second Olympic champion in modern pentathlon keeping her cool superbly in the final run-and-shoot.

Laura Muir won a brilliant silver in the 1500m as Faith Kipyegon retained her title with Allyson Felix becoming the most decorated female track and field athlete in history with bronze in a 400m won by defending champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo.

Elsewhere, Tom Daley eased into the individual 10m platform diving semi-finals as he looks to add to his synchronised gold won last week while Britain beat India in a thrilling hockey bronze match and USA’s women won beach volleyball gold.
