When are Debenhams Cardiff and Swansea stores closing as first list of closures announced?

Retailer Debenhams has today announced the final store closing dates for 27 branches, including six Welsh locations.

It comes after Debenhams announced in January the permanent closure of all its physical UK stores after agreeing the sale of the brand to online-only retailer Boohoo..

Stores in Carmarthen, Llanelli, Llandudno and Wrexham will close on Sunday, May 2, with Bangor and the Newport branch, which opened in Friar's Walk in 2015, closing on Tuesday, May 4. You can read more about this here.

However, the announcement has left many in Wales wondering what that means for Debenhams stores in both Cardiff and Swansea.

Both have been busy since non-essential retail reopened in Wales, with huge queues descending on the stores with shoppers trying to pick up deals and bargains as the retailer discounted stock. You can see local reaction to the Debenhams closures here.

A spokesperson for Debenhams said of the latest closures: "With such great bargains on offer, it's no wonder our stock is selling out incredibly fast.

"Time is running out for shoppers to take advantage of the incredible discounts being offered at these 27 stores."

But how long do shoppers have to pick up a deal in Cardiff or Swansea?

While no official closing dates have been announced for the 97 branches not listed, a company spokesperson has confirmed its remaining stores will close between May 4 and May 15.
