As the temperatures start to increase with the arrival of warmer weather to the capital, so, too, does the desire to jump in the water.

For those wanting to avoid the long drive and highway traffic to get to beaches on the south coast, there are still plenty of options to cool down in Canberra's many public pools.

After a long winter shut down, here's when you can break out the boardies and bikinis.

Manuka Pool

After undergoing extensive renovations, Manuka Pool has been given a facelift ahead of this year's summer.

The art deco pool, and Canberra's oldest public pool, has been fully retiled, with its water lines and inlets also given an upgrade.

The pool will be open to swimmers slightly later than usual, opening on November 30.

More than 30,000 people are estimated to use the pool each season.

Last summer was one of the busiest for the Dickson Pool, which saw a 25 per cent increase in visitors.

Canberra Olympic Pool

While Canberra Olympic Pool's indoor facilities are open all-year round, the outdoor pool has been lying dormant during the colder moths.

Luckily, the outdoor pool will open to swimmers on November 1.

Lakeside Leisure Centre

Tuggeranong swimmers have been able to swim at the Lakeside Leisure Centre throughout the year.

The centre's outdoor splash park has been open since October 5 and will be open all summer.

Gungahlin Leisure Centre

For those wanting to cool off in Canberra's north, the Gungahlin Leisure Centre is open all-year round and is entirely indoors.

Phillip Swimming Centre

The Phillip Swimming Pool is open seven days a week from November to March.

Active Leisure Centre

The centre in Wanniassa is entirely indoors, and operates year-round.
