When are Bristol Rovers' fixtures out? The key dates ahead of the 2021/22 League Two season

With last season now firmly in the rear view mirror, Joey Barton and Bristol Rovers can look ahead to a campaign in which the fundamental goal is to secure promotion out of League Two.

The onus and responsibility is also now firmly on Barton's shoulders with the ills of 2020/21 a result of a number of failures across the club, in terms of individuals and decision making.

The Gas are preparing for their first season in the fourth tier since 2016 which brings lengthy away trips to Barrow, Carlisle, Hartlepool and Harrogate but also local derbies against Swindon Town and Newport County plus Darrell Clarke's Port Vale.

With that in mind, here is all you need to know ahead of fixture release day ...

When are the fixtures released?

All EFL fixtures for the 72 teams across the Championship, League One and League Two will be confirmed at 9am on Thursday, June 24.

Bristol Live will be providing full coverage, reaction and analysis once the order of the Gas' opponents is revealed.

When does the season start?

The season kicks off on the weekend August 7-8 with the possibility of a televised game on Friday, August 6, although that's more likely to be a Championship fixture.

The final game of the regular season is on May 7, 2022 with the League Two play-off final on May 28, 2022. Dates for the semi-finals are yet to be determined.

What about cup competitions?

The draw for the Carabao Cup first round will also take place on Thursday, at 15:40.

The draw will see teams drawn in Northern and Southern sections, with matches scheduled to take place the week commencing August 9. Clubs are able to mutually agree an alternative date between July 31 and August 4.

The final for the Carabao Cup is scheduled for February 27, 2022.

The Papa John's Trophy draw will also be conducted on Thursday at 16:30.

As in previous years, the 48 League One and League Two clubs will be placed into regionalised groups prior to the draw, before one of 16 Category One academy Premier League teams is drawn into each of those groups on draw day.

Academy teams: Arsenal, Aston Villa, Brighton, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Everton, Leeds United, Liverpool, Leicester, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham, Wolves.

FA Cup round dates are yet to be confirmed by the Football Association but the Extra Preliminary Round begins on August 7.
