When and where you can watch the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest

The Eurovision song contest is only around the corner, when Lesley Roy will take to the stage to represent Ireland.

The Irish-born singer songwriter will be performing "Maps" in Rotterdam on May 18 at the live semi final.

Roy wrote "Maps" alongside Lukas Hällgren, Philip Strand, Normandy, Deepend and Emelie Eriksson.

She was set to represent Ireland in Eurovision 2020 with the song "Story Of My Life" before it got cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The competition was put on hold back in March 2020 due to the ongoing health emergency, as well as the Dutch government’s decision to ban large gatherings in an attempt to slow the spread of the virus.

After a year of preparations for the rescheduled event, it’s now just eight days until proceedings kick off.

According to organisers, everyone attending the Eurovision Song Contest at Rotterdam’s Ahoy Arena will have to practice social distancing.

Strict health and safety measures - including frequent COVID-19 testing - will also be in place at the venue in order to protect artists, performers, and crew.

If there are any performers who cannot travel to Rotterdam, they will perform “live-on-tape” with a recorded performance being used as their entry.

Those who can travel to Rotterdam will perform their songs live on stage.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2021 will be hosted by Chantal Janzen, Edsilia Rombley, Jan Smit and Nikkie de Jager.

Chantal Janzen is a famous singer, actress and presenter, and Edsilia Rombley is a presenter, singer and two-time Eurovision participant.

Jan Smit is a successful singer, presenter and Eurovision commentator for the Netherlands and Nikkie de Jager is a professional hair & makeup artist and beauty guru with over 13 million subscribers on YouTube.

Lesley Roy is due to perform in the first semi-final of Eurovision 2021, on Tuesday, May 18, after which, she’ll be hoping to make it to the final on Saturday, May 22.

You can watch coverage of the whole contest on RTE Two.
