When and where you can see the famous Peppercorn A-class steam train in Cardiff

An iconic locomotive will be calling at Cardiff later this year.

The A1 Peppercorn Pacific 60163 - AKA The Tornado - has a special place in the hearts of rail enthusiasts because it's the only one of its kind to be built since the golden age of mainline steam ended more than 50 years ago.

Work started on it in 1994 after a group of train lovers decided to to create a new locomotive based on the classic designs of it original architect Arthur H Peppercorn.

The Tornado, so called because of its ability to reach 100mph, was finished in 2008 at a cost of £3m and it celebrated its tenth year in service in 2018 - during which time it's covered more than 100,000 miles.

The locomotive, which has appeared in the movie Paddington 2 and the TV series Top Gear, will be calling into the capital in November as part of a nostalgic journey to mark the 30th anniversary celebrations of The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust, the registered charity which owns it.
