When and where you can explore Bristol's secret garden

There are countless hidden historic gems in Bristol, from secluded stately homes to tucked-away woodlands.

One of the best of these can be found in the grounds of Goldney House, a garden owned by Bristol University and hidden away in the streets of Clifton .

The ornate garden behind the house in Clifton Wood includes a heritage orchard, an ornamental garden, an orangery, a canal and tower, a rotunda and bastion, Corinthian columns and an elaborate grotto, which is one of the finest surviving examples of an 18th century garden grotto in Britain.

But usually the mysterious garden is closed to the public and hidden from plain sight.

However, this summer, members of the public will have the chance to explore its beautiful grounds in a series of guided tours.

The tour will include a number of historic buildings as well as the original flag garden, canal, orchard and grotto.

The tours cost £10 per person and will take place on May 19, May 31, June 12, June 28, July 17, July 26, August 8, August 18 and September 15.
