When and what time is the Greater Manchester Mayor election result due?

Although the election of Greater Manchester's Mayor takes place on Thursday, the results won't be known for some time after.

The mayoral election was scheduled to take place in May 2020 but was postponed, along with a number of other local votes, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Nine candidates will be on the ballot paper and it will be the second time the region has taken to the polls to choose a mayor.

They are in alphabetical order:

  • Nick Buckley (Reform UK)
  • Andy Burnham (Labour)
  • Laura Evans (Conservative)
  • Marcus Farmer (Independent)
  • Melanie Horrocks (Green)
  • Simon Lepori (Liberal Democrat)
  • Alec Marvel (Independent)
  • Stephen Morris (English Democrat)
  • David Sutcliffe (Independent)

Counting of the votes doesn't begin until two days after the vote - on the morning of Saturday, May 8.

Then the results are expected by mid-afternoon on Saturday.
