When and how to watch and stream Bundesliga matches in the UK on BT Sport and what team to support

Live European football is set to return to TV screens on May 16 as the Bundesliga restarts behind-closed-doors.

Germany's top- flight football season will return under strict health and safety rules and with no fans attending games, a move that the Premier League are likely to follow in the coming weeks.

Like the Premier League, the Bundesliga has been suspended since March due to the Coronavirus outbreak, but unlike in England, professional sides in Germany have been training since mid-April.

Divided into small groups and under strict conditions, including extensive Covid-19 testing of all players and coaching staff, players have been allowed to continue to train and prepare for a restart.

The Ruhr Valley derby between Borussia Dortmund and Schalke is the big fixture to watch out for when action resumes on May 16 and below is how fans in the UK can watch the action live.

How can you watch the matches ?

BT Sport holds the rights to games in the UK and Ireland and will be showing fixtures across its range of channels.

All matches will be shown live on BT Sport.

You can browse the available BT Sport packages here or, alternatively, if you don't want to be tied down to a fixed contract, you can browse their Monthly Passes here.

Can I stream Bundesliga matches?

Existing BT Sport customers will be able to stream the action via the BT Sport app, while additional streaming is available on the BT Sport website.

EE mobile customers can also watch BT Sport coverage at no cost, thanks to a subscription plan announced by the network.

"To say thanks for being with us, here's a special sporting treat for our monthly mobile and tablet customers: three months’ free BT Sport on your EE phone and connected tablet,” the company said.

“Just text SPORT to 150, register for a BT ID then download the BT Sport app and get watching!"

Which team should I support?

All nine of this weekend's games will be shown across BT Sport platform, and after months of having to watch replays of old to get that all-important football fix, there's no doubt fans will be watching in numbers as live matches return

But who should you follow if you don't already have a Bundesliga team?

Perhaps the team with the best badge? The nicest stadium? Or maybe the one with the most recognisable players?

Fear not. We have made the decision easy for you with our useful widget which will reveal your ideal Bundesliga team.

All you have to do is drag the bars to suggest which is most important between a big club, playing attacking football, having a wise boss at the helm or whether the team's location is fantastic for holidays.

Once you have your perfect balance, hit 'Find me a team' and you will get the Bundesliga team you should be rooting for this weekend.

Bundesliga table at the moment

Bayern Munich currently hold a four-point lead over Borussia Dortmund at the top of the table.

While RB Leipzig are only a point further back in third, with Borussia Monchengladbach rounding out the top four.

At the bottom, Fortuna Dusseldorf, Werder Bremen and Paderborn occupy the relegation places.
