Wheelchair tennis player Kamiji snatches silver

Yui Kamiji claimed silver in the women's wheelchair tennis singles Friday by losing to Diede de Groot of the Netherlands at the Tokyo Paralympics.

The 27-year-old Hyogo Prefecture native also brought home a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Games.

Kamiji, who was born with a congenital impairment in her legs, took up wheelchair tennis at the age of 11 and won her first French Open women's wheelchair singles title in 2014. She is currently an eight-time Grand Slam singles champion.

The Tokyo Games marks her third consecutive appearance at the Paralympics, beginning with the 2012 London Games. She also made it to the semifinals at the 2016 Rio Games in the women's wheelchair doubles.
