Wheelchair bound ex-prisoner stages one man protest outside Saughton Prison

An ex-prisoner has been staging a one man protest outside HMP Edinburgh.

The wheelchair bound man, who a local identified as Robert Dnaliczuk, has been outside Saughton Prison since at least 30 July.

Concerned locals have offered him food and water, which he reluctantly accepted.

Faraz Farooq, who spoke to the man, said he told him that he had been jailed for possession marijuana.

He claimed to have been left disabled after being beaten in the jail.

The man, named locally as Robert Dnaliczuk, has a number of protest banners with claims against the prison written on them.

Faraz said he didn’t not think Robert was there to “beg”, rather to ask for his basic human rights.

“I tried to approach him, tried to offer food and water and money,” Faraz said.

He added: “He reluctantly took the water, nothing else. Not even the money.“

In the pictures you see a man who has been failed by the system.”

Edinburgh Live has contacted the Scottish Prison Service for comment, but they had not responded by the time of publication.
