Wheaton man charged with attempting to break into two homes

Dillon Durrett | Wheaton police

A man was arrested Monday after allegedly attempting to enter two homes in west suburban Wheaton.

Dillon Durrett, 19, is charged with one count of attempted criminal trespass and one count of attempted residential burglary, Wheaton police said in a statement.

He was arrested about 4:30 a.m. after he tried to forcibly enter a home in the 2100 block of Fox Run to commit a sexual assault, police said.

A day earlier, he tried breaking into another home about 11 a.m. in the 1500 block of Wiesbrook Road, police said.

“A person’s home is their sanctuary in which they have every right to feel safe and secure,” DuPage County state’s attorney Bob Berlin said in a statement. “It is alleged that under the cover of night, Mr. Durrett attempted to forcibly enter his victim’s home while she was sleeping. Thankfully, his alleged attempt was unsuccessful and he was taken into custody by the Wheaton Police Department a short time later.”

Durrett is being held on $200,000 bail, and he is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 9.
