Wheatfield Prison in Dublin put on high alert after bomb threat

A prison is on high alert after a caller rang in a bomb threat earlier today.

Gardai are hunting for the culprit after a call was made to Wheatfield Prison in Clondalkin, Dublin on Thursday.

It's understood someone rang in and threatened to "blow up" the prison, Dublin Live reports.

Gardai were contacted immediately and a team is now investigating whether there was any substance to the threat.

A spokesperson for the Irish Prison Service confirmed the incident occurred, adding that gardai are now looking for the perpetrator.

They said: "The Irish Prison Service can confirm it received a phone message today 13/02/2020 by somebody claiming they were going to blow up Wheatfield Prison.

"An Garda Síochána were notified immediately and the situation is currently being investigated."
