WhatsApp will stop working on thousands of smartphones this week

WhatsApp is due to stop working on thousands of UK smartphones on the last day of the decade.

The Facebook-owned messaging app will pull support from phones using the Windows operating system on December 31.

The move will affect Nokia devices such as the Lumia 650, which was released four years ago and was still being sold in 2017.

Older iPhone devices running iOS 8 or older will also be affected from February next year.

And Android users running software versions of 2.3.7 or older will also see support pulled.

Microsoft discontinued development of its Windows phone operating system in 2017.

Earlier this year WhatsApp told customers that they would no longer be able to use the app after December 31.

The app was pulled from the Microsoft Store in July, 2019, in preparation for the change.

Windows smartphone users can save their chat history before the app stops working, MirrorOnline reports .

Open the chat you wish to export, and tap on Group Info.

Scroll down and tap ‘Export Chat’. You’ll then be given the option to download the chat with or without media - note the attaching media will generate a larger chat archive.
