Whatsapp users in Edinburgh and around the world are reporting that the chat service is not working.
A number of users have taken to Twitter to try to figure out what has happened and the Website DownDetector has shown a large spike in people reporting issues with the app.
Those trying to communicate with one another have found that their messages, pictures and videos are not being sent to their contacts.

One Twitter user said: “When your WhatsApp is playing up but you come to Twitter and see that everyone else is having the same problem #WhatsAppDown”
Whilst another added: “Global outage #whatsapp is down again.”
Whereas another said: “What we all needed this morning is a UK-wide Whatsapp outage.”
Some of the first users to report problems with the Meta owned app were those living on the other side of the world in India and Pakistan.
It is not known what has caused the issue that appears to have begun at around 08:20am but the problem has continued to persist for around half an hour.
The owners of the app have yet to provide an update on the service outage at this time.
