A new update for WhatsApp will include a shortcut to allow users to better manage media in the messaging app.

The ‘Show in chat’ feature lets users quickly find out where any images or videos originated from.

This allows users to find exactly which group chat or conversation a particular picture came from and when it was sent.

The feature, first spotted by WeBetaInfo, is already available for iOS and will be available in future Android versions of the app.

Other recently announced updates to the popular messaging app, which counts around 1.5 billion users worldwide, include an improved sticker selection and integrated fingerprint security.

WhatsApp users will be able to access this new feature by selecting the option menu for an image and selecting ‘Show in chat’.

The feature, first spotted by WeBetaInfo, is already available for iOS and will be available in future Android versions of the app.

“When you select ‘Show in chat’, WhatsApp opens the chat presenting the view where the image is visible,” WaBetaInfo noted.

“In this menu you can also see ‘Set as’ and ‘Rotate’. Previously, all options available in ‘Set as’ were visible in the first menu, instead ‘Rotate’ is new because you could find ‘Rotate left’ and ‘Rotate right’ in the old version.”

A spokesperson for WhatsApp told The Independent that the company does not comment on beta tests.
