It’s one of the most popular messaging apps around, and now it seems that WhatsApp is working on a new feature.
A report by WABetaInfo suggests that WhatsApp is testing self-destructing messages, in a new feature called ‘Delete Messages’.
The feature was first spotted in the WhatsApp beta of Android 2.19.282 update back in October, in which it was called 'Disappearing Messages'.
However, WABetaInfo has now discovered it in the 2.19.348 update, in which it's now referred to as 'Delete Messages'.
The feature will automatically delete messages after a certain period of time, and appears to only work in Group chats.
WABetaInfo said: “When enabled, the feature can be toggled in Contact Info or Group Settings (only administrators can enable the feature in a group).”
Users can choose how long new messages will last before they’re deleted, ranging from one hour to one year.
As always, it remains unclear when or if WhatsApp will roll the feature out to all users.
