Thousands of WhatsApp users worldwide have reported problems amid a 'global outage'.

Downdetector.co.uk has recorded a surge in reports about the messaging app being down, the Mirror reports.

Mobile and web customers say the app is not 'connecting' when they try to send messages.

WhatsApp is by far the largest messaging platform in the world with over two billion users.
