What Zeki Celik has said about his future amid Tottenham Hotspur transfer links

Right-back Zeki Celik insists he is happy to stay at Lille despite growing transfer interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

Back in March, Buzz Sport claimed that Spurs, who are desperate to bolster the right-back berth in the next transfer window, had identified Celik as a possible target to strengthen head coach Jose Mourinho's defensive options.

Spurs have struggled in the right-back spot this term, with Ivory Coast international Serge Aurier, who joined the club from French giants Paris-Saint Germain in August 2017, having struggled for consistency.

In a bid to strengthen that particular area of the pitch, Spurs have been closely linked with moves for Belgian international Thomas Meunier and Celik.

But Spurs' hopes of landing Celik this summer have suffered a blow, with the Turkish international, who signed a five-year deal with Lille in July 2018 following his move from Istanbulspor, having confirmed that he is happy to stay with the Ligue 1 club.

In an interview with Turkish media outlet DHA, Celik said: "I have a four-year contract with my club. It is also said that there are suitors for the transfer, but I do not know.

"I am preparing for the new season and I am happy with my club."

It could be some time before Celik plays competitive football again, with the Ligue 1 season having been suspended for this season, meaning it is not yet known when top-flight football in France could resume because of the coronavirus crisis.

This term, Celik racked up 32 appearances for Lille in all competitions, registering three assists along the way, all of which came in the league.
