I love the way nature can catch you by surprise and force you to stop and take it in. These patterns in the snow, caused by the wind, fascinated me the moment I saw them

A marsh harrier at Lakenheath. It is amazing to think that this bird is hunting over what a dozen or so years ago was carrot fields and is now an amazing wetland, part of a landscape restored. This grab shot was taken on a quick walk after attending the retirement 'bash' of Norman Sills the 'creator' of Lakenheath Fen and Titchwell Marsh nature reserves. Not a bad CV!

The list of bird species sighted in Holanducia is long: swallows, hawks, eagles, hoopoes, white doves, Iberian chiffchaffs, egrets, bee-eaters, owls and blackbirds are, to name but a few, part of the bird species that rely on this land yearly. It would be a sad thing if they should abruptly cease to grace our eyes and ears don't you think? But at present building plans are menacing the land
