What you need to know if you have an appointment at Royal Liverpool Hospital today

The Royal Liverpool Hospital's main entrance is closed this morning due to a police incident.

Merseyside police confirmed that they were called to the A&E entrance at around 10.30pm yesterday, on Wednesday, November 3.

As a result, officers closed off Prescot Street in both directions between Moss Street and Low Hill.

This morning, the hospital Trust has confirmed that while the main entrance remains closed, the hospital is fully operational.

Some disruption is expected to travel around the area, however appointments should run as normal.

A spokesperson for the Trust said the hospital is still safe to attend and those wishing to access the site for appointments or the A&E department should use alternative entrances.

Police, hospital staff and security are on the scene to advise people on difference access points.

The Royal Liverpool Hospital said: "Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust can confirm that the Royal Liverpool Hospital on Prescot Street remains open to all patients and staff as usual today and are encouraging people to attend as normal.

"Access to the hospital’s main entrance has been closed following Prescot Street being cordoned off in response to an ongoing police incident.

"Whilst the incident is ongoing there will be minor disruption to access and services and the Trust would like to thank people for their patience and cooperation.

"The Trust can confirm that the hospital remains fully operational. It is safe to attend the hospital with access the site via alternative entrances for people wishing to attend the Accident and Emergency Department, for appointments or visiting.

"Please arrive as planned and you will be directed by onsite security through the hospital via alternative entrances."
